    VERY RARE 1970's Vintage Big Horn Pioneer Series Python Saddle
    Model 728 python design, (not real snake but leather stamped to look like python skin) all purpose western saddle
    I am saying its an all purpose, only because the original big horn catalog ad does not specify. But from looking at the other pictures in the catalog it appears to be a cutter. This saddle weighs 35.5 .lbs with no packing.
    It has solid brass rigging, and D rings must have been an option. There is not much info on the internet about this saddle. The picture in the catalog shows different rigging,and strings than this saddle has.
    It has no strings except for the lariat tie. Also, it does not have pioneer anywhere on it, though clearly it is a pioneer python saddle. The only place it says big horn is on the saddle horn. I have seen other pictures of this saddle with wide white buck stitching that also must have been an option as my saddle and the one in the catalog does not. This is a very nice saddle - heavy built with lots of years of use/display left in it
    It has been in my living room for the last 10 years. All pioneer series saddles have fiberglass covered trees. This saddle originally came with a 5 year warranty on the tree. I have taken care of it with black rock leather conditioner. It's just leather! The sheep skin was fairly new when I bought it and I have never had it on a horse. The pommels are 14" swept back. 15.5" slightly padded seat. Full quarter horse bars. This is a very solid saddle. I have spent a lot of time trying to learn more about this saddle: not much information out there.
