I am selling this as part of my good friend's estate. She started collecting in the early 1980's (this box was actually found in the uncle of my friend's safety deposit box after he passed) and never stopped until the very end...I will be selling pieces of her collection through the next few months.  I have been a Seller on eBay for 20+ years, prompt shipping and every item is always insured.
This elegant handmade box measuring 3.25" X 2" X1" tall is made to hold a scholar's ink stick. The inside top surface has a stone insert (with minor crack) to grind the ink on. The inside bottom shows wear and use...just like it should... On the outside bottom is a dark mark on the copper that was caused by the blue tag that my friend had placed on the surface...was painters tape, the spot should clean right off, but I'm not doing it. I've always wished that I knew what the calligraphy says...I imagine that it is some type of poetry, or something in reference to the lovely etched orchid plants (acid etching is a rarely used process, typically these boxes were all hand engraved)...this one is a beauty, what a great addition to a fabulous collection. Sure to be noticed and admired, yours now to cherish...
