James  Keyston started the company in 1868 by making and selling whips and lashes.   His brother W.D joined a couple of years later and ran the factory while James  traveled the countryside selling their products by wagon.   The  company gained a reputation for providing quality at a fair price.  As the  company grew so did their line of products including toy leather holsters.   The company eventually moved into the automotive industry and home furnishings  upholstery.
